Mini-Golfing: This Isn’t Your Average Course

Fall,Summer: Who doesn’t love a round of mini-golf especially when you have some serious competition an exceptionally fun course. You will find many mini-golf courses around the state but, some great ones to check out are the Dolphin Mini Golf in Boothbay and Steamboat Landing in Naples. The clean courses offer the average player a challenging round of mini-golf. Dolphin Mini Golf lives up to it’s name with a sea and nautical theme. You will find swing bouys, dolphin and whale statues and tons of water hazards. Some of the water hazards actually are home to live fish! One hole challenges players to put past a ship’s wheel and another you have to putt over a New England-styled covered bridge. Steamboat Landing is a trip through the “Pine Tree State’s” landmarks. The whole course is designed after state landmarks like Fort Western, a scenic lighthouse, and the Maine Black Bear hole. This is a great course to play during a hot sunny day because it’s in the woods so it is shady and cool. Mini-golfing is a great way to spend some time with the family, so why not try it today!

Moonlight Paddle: Stillness Surrounds You

Fall, Summer: A moonlight paddle can provide kayakers a different perspective than the counterpart. Paddling into the sunset and watching the moon rise can be an awesome experience. Once the full moon has taken it’s position you can catch the silvery moonlight in the wake of your kayak and enjoy the quiet peace that comes with the end of the day. Depending on the weather the moonlight can play an important and beautiful part in your moonlight paddle. The bright moonlight can change everything and sounds can echo from miles away. There are kayak companies around the state that offer moonlight paddles. We recently visited the mid-coast area and stopped in at Seaspray Kayaking. Their guided tour was absolutely amazing and the guides were helpful and knowlegable for beginners. We were able to enjoy a relaxing paddle as we navigated beneath the stars. At the end of the paddle we were greated back to shore with a fire and snack. It was a great trip and well worth the money spent.

Foraging The Forest: Searching For Decorating Treasures

Fall: This is the time of year when the bittersweet is in full bloom. This vine loves to attach itself to trees and low growing bushes and you can’t miss it in the woods. The bright red, orange and yellow berries are the perfect blend of fall colors. Bittersweet is a perfect decorating element to add to your fall decor. I often use it to make natural wreaths that are hung on doors or anywhere in your home. The way this viney plant grows, you can form a perfect circle with sprays time of year looking for pine cones for holiday decorating. Considering this is the pinecone state there usually is no shortage. They are plentiful and easy to find now before the trees start shedding their leaves. I use pinecones for both decorating wreaths and even just gathering them in a tall glass vase and setting them on the mantle and table for a unique centerpiece. You never know what you may spot along the way during a walk through the woods in the fall.
