Fall Hunting: Big Game Hunting Begins

Fall: Fall in Maine brings the start to hunting season and with over 33,000 sq miles of terrain the game is not hard to find. Deer, moose, bear and birds are plentiful throughout the state. Liscenses are required to hunt animals and birds in Maine so it is important that you check with your local town office before going out. The fall season is white tail deer season in Maine being that it is the most sought after big game in the state. The season for deer runs from September to December and hunting on Sunday’s is prohibited. Maine has the nations largest population of black bear with estimates reaching over 23,000. The black bear season runs from the end of August to the end of November. Bird hunting and waterfowl has become increasingly popular. Pheasant and quails are easily found with more difficult breeds such as woodcock and grouse. Ducks can be found in the Kennebec valley area with mallards and wood ducks making appearances along the waterways. Fall season is hunting season in a state like Maine.
