Fall: Looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, why not attend a local football game. Whether you choose a local high school team or decide to go see our very own Maine Black Bears you are sure to have fun. Most weekend game schedules can be found in the local sports section or on-line and it’s a great way to spend a day with friends. While you are at it make it an authentic tail gating event by packing the cooler and setting up in the parking lot for a pre-game celebration. It is fun to attend you high school homecoming game. Call some of your classmates and make it a mini reunion and celebrate in those school colors. It is sure to bring you back to the day and a great way to catch up with people you haven’t seen in awhile. Tail gate parties are as easy as sandwiches or can be as elaborate as rolling out the grill off the truck bed and setting up the food tent. Either way, between the friends, food and game you are sure to enjoy the day.

Fall,Winter,Spring & Summer: No matter how you decide to explore the Kennebec River Trail one thing is for sure, you will love it. This walking, hiking, biking and running path has been set up for everyone to enjoy. This community trail runs along the banks of the Kennebec River and offers users a scenic 6.5 mile jaunt through some of the prettiest parts of the area. Whether you start in Gardiner and walk through Farmingdale and Hallowell to end in Augusta or vice versa you may be surprised at what you see along the way. It’s not uncommon to catch sites of breath-taking views of the river. Often times can can catch site of eagles and ospreys preying on fish. Sturgeons over a foot long have been seen leaping into the air. This area is full of historical sites and seeing the antique ice-harvesting houses and lumber mills will bring you back to a days gone by. Fall: With the holiday season fast approaching the Maine craft show circuit is getting into full swing. These events draw hundreds of holiday shoppers looking for unique, maine made gifts and they usually aren’t disappointed. Both Augusta and Portland offer big craft shows annually. The Maine Made Craft Fair has been held at the Augusta Armory for the last 24 years and is a great place to get some shopping done for those who are on your holiday gift giving list. The Christmas Craft Show held in Portland is always full of great homemade items from jewelry, to puzzles, to knitted items and food. The crowds tend to thin out a bit in the afternoon hours but the morning rush is sure to put you in the holiday shopping spirit. In addition to great gifts there is also food available for purchase that will keep you shopping all day long. So why not try a little local holiday shopping and stop in at one of the states many holiday craft shows.
Apple Orchard Bakeries: Fall’s Sweet Treats
Fall: Go to one of your local apple orchards this time of year and you will find your pick of some amazing fall treats. I stopped into Lakeside Orchard in Manchester this past weekend and discovered some wonderful taste of fall. The smell of orchard fresh apples, mulled cider and hot baked apple pie filled the room. I know, writing about apples again but, during the fall you just can’t help yourself. These treats just don’t taste the same any other time of the year. With Thanksgiving coming, now is the time to be planning for your harvest meal with family and friends. Why not let one of these orchard’s take some of the stress away by stopping in and buying your sweet treats which are baked fresh daily. On top of wonderful apple pies and apple muffins there were good old fashion donuts, apple cinnamon of course, and only one word to describe them…delicious!
