Saddleback Mountain: Good Clean Fun

Winter; The Rangley Lakes region is a winter paradise. Miles of snowmobiling trails, ice fishing on the lake and skiing Saddleback. Whether you are a downhill junkie or a cross country cruiser, this mountain offers it all. The cross country ski center offers skiers 40 trails on the lower half of the mountain. These trails are groomed for perfection and offer traditional trails along with skating lanes for the more advanced. Looking for great downhill skiing, Saddleback has it and has snow! The mountain averages 200 inches per season and has runs that range from beginner bunny slopes to exhilarating descents that will make your heart go to your throat! The view of the lake from the mountain is breathtaking and there usually aren’t the crowds that you can often times encounter at some of the other mountains in Maine. If you need rentals they have them and lessons as well for all levels.

Pond Hockey: Let The Games Begin

Winter: Calling all of you shimmy hockey fans, the 2nd annual New England Pond Hockey Festival is almost here again this February. This event has been hugely popular with pond hockey fans and has doubled in size just in one year. The festival will be held in Rangley on Haley Pond and is a round robin tournament with 20 teams and over 120 players so the competition should be fun and varied. The tournament ends with a championship round for the top 8 teams. Pond hockey has been a fun filled Maine winter activity that is very popular. If you do go to watch the friendly competition you should plan an overnight stay at the Loon Lodge. Nestled near the lake with spectacular view, this log cabin style lodge offers overnight guest a roaring fireplace to warm up by and a great restaurant. The rooms are cozy and quaint and the hospitality is almost as great as the view!

Sugarloaf: Don’t Ski? Plenty Of Things To Do

Kingfield is the Aspen ski town of the east and with that comes some great places to go and fun things to do. For those looking for outdoor adventure the Black Fly Loop is a perfect trail system to ride snowmobiles on. With over 228 miles of trails you will encounter some great scenic spots along with places to stop and grab something to eat. As a matter of fact Judson’s Pub is at the end of one of the trails so you can enjoy some hot food and warm up by the fire. Not into the great outdoors, no problem! The Grand Summit Hotel on Sugarloaf Mountain offers guest some luxury accomodatins along with great services and wonderful views. Schedule a deep tissue massage at the spa or plan to spend the day soaking up the warmth in their hot tub overlooking the Bigelow Mountain range. The Loaf offers some happening night spots like Gepetto’s Side Bar and The Widowmaker, known for their music and dancing. The Kingfield area is a great place to vacation even if skiing isn’t your thing!

Snowmobiling In Rangley: Trail Riding At It’s Best!

Winter: Rangeley Lakes is a mecca for snowmobilers. With miles of groomed trails, a beautiful lake to cruise on and along and so many amenities gear toward snowmobilers it is the place to go. The trail systems is by far one of the best maintained in the entire state. Cruising along the lake with views of the mountains makes for some of the most scenic riding around. Many of the area restaurants, pubs and overnight accomodations are all found trailside so there is no need to drive anything but, your sled once you are there. Saddleback mountain is along the trail system so if you really wanted to go and ski for the day it would be possible. Rangeley is part of the Black Fly Loop which connects several northern towns to this trail system. The rides is comfortable and most importantly beautiful. The wildlife along the trail is amazing, it is not unheard of to come up on a herd of deer or a moose. On one trip there were even black bears in the distance. Though it is a popular destination for snowmobilers you still feel like you are alone and at times it is miles before you come across another party on the trails. If you are looking for some open air adventure than a trip to Rangeley may be just what you need.
