Golf: Best Spots To Play In The State

Summer: Nothing beats a day on the links and Maine has some great courses around the state to check out. One of the most breathtaking courses in the state is on the foothills of Sugarloaf Mountain. Rated on the #1 place to play in New England, Sugarloaf’s course is rugged and challenging. The number 2 hole is 510 yards from the white tee to the pin and that’s just one of many holes that are well over the 350 yard range. Another great golf course to check out is Point Sebago Golf Course in the southern half in the state is touted as one of the best 18 hole golf courses in the state and one trip around the course you will definitely see why. The grounds are perfectly manicured and the professionally designed and it makes for a challenging and fun round of golf. The beauty of this course is it is also located near one of the nicest summer spots, Sebago Lake. With so many things to do in the area even if you are not a golfer you will be able to find something whether it be shopping, dining or just enjoying a day on the beach. If you find yourself in the mid-coast area than you should definitely check out the Samoset Golf Resort. This golf course runs along the banks of the Atlantic and has some great. Known as the best place to “tee by the sea” you will find the views from the 14th hole are worth the trip! Not only is this a wonderful golf course but, it is only a couple of miles from Camden where you will find the one of the prettiest harbors in the state and also where the mountains meet the sea. Playing golf in Maine is where it is at during the summer months, so take some time to check out all the courses in the state and get out and play!

Lobster: Adopt Your Own Trap And Enjoy A Taste Of Maine!

Summer: Want a way to have fresh lobster at your finger tips year round? Why not adopt a Maine lobster trap! That’s correct, you can adopt your own Maine lobster trap for a set price and reap the rewards of lobsters year round. This is a great way to enjoy these crustaceans and a fun way to share in the taste of Maine. Part of this program allows for trap owners to be able to monitor their trap on-line and whatever is caught in the trap belongs to you or whoever you would like to share with. Most of the lobster companies providing this service will ship the lobsters overnight wherever and to whomever you want them to go! What a great way to enjoy fresh Maine lobster that you can share with your friends and family!! The program known as “catch a piece of Maine” guarantees at least 48 lobsters a year which would be a nice gift to all the people on your gift list! This is also a great gift idea for weddings, retirements and any other special occasion you can think of. Once you get your lobsters, the sky is the limit on how you serve them. I like to steam them in just a tiny bit of water and a beer. I find the meat is more flavorful than boiling it in a full pot of water. Serve the lobster along with some grilled corn in the husk and a bucket of steamers and you have yourself a real Maine meal fit for a king! Summer is all about Maine lobster so adopt your own trap today and sit back and enjoy the fruit of someone else’s labor!

Bailey’s Island: Cruise Over For Nature Tours And Lobster Dinners

Summer: Eating lobster, enjoying the ocean and visiting all the sites in Maine are popular summer activities to do for visitors and residents alike. The mid-coast area offers plenty of places to see and plenty of things to do. While you’re there, take a ride out to Brunswick to the end of Route 24 and you will find yourself in Bailey’s Island. The island is connected to Orr’s Island by the famous Bailey’s Island Bridge, a unique and one-of-a-kind granite cribstone bridge. Once you are on Bailey’s Island, the scene is pure Maine. Lobster boats piled high with traps and buoys floating in the harbor and cottage-style homes lining the shores of this small fishing community. It you are searching for a taste of Maine, Cook’s Lobster House is there to meet your needs. With the freshest seafood, you can enjoy dining inside or out on the decks overlooking the harbor. Casco Bay Cruise Lines offers great day trips to the surrounding islands. One of my favorite cruises is to Eagle Island where you can tour the summer home of Admiral Peary, explorer and professor at Bowdoin College. It’s also a great way to see the seals frolicking on the rocks just off shore and catch a 360 degree view of the famous bridge. If you feel like venturing off the island, head toward Bath, and check out the Maine Maritime Museum where you can learn all you ever wanted to know about the area’s maritime history. They have a great collection of photos and acres of galleries, original shipbuilding outbuilding along the banks of the Kennebec River. Take a ride to Kennebec Tavern and sit out of the deck overlooking the river and the boats. It’s a great place to enjoy a cold margarita and lunch on a warm summer afternoon!

Brunswick: Join In The Fun At Maine’s Own Playhouse

Summer: Year after year, the Maine State Music Theater continues to keep outdoing themselves and this year is no exception. Spend sometime this summer enjoying a live theater show that rivals Broadway at a state of the art theater on the grounds of Bowdoin College in Brunswick. For the past 50 years, the Maine State Music Theater has offered a varied show schedule which includes musical performances and children shows each summer. The productions are top notch with rave reviews from show goers. The theater is comfortable and is a reprieve from the hot summer nights. Get lost in the show as you enjoy one of the finest theater companies in Maine. Brunswick is a great spot to catch dinner before the show. With restaurants right on Maine Street like Henry and Marty’s and The Great Impasta, you could make a night out of it! Henry and Marty’s is an eclectic mix of modern cuisine with a very metropolitan feel. The dishes are fresh and creative and the crowd is hip and looking for something new. The Great Impasta has been a Brunswick favorite for years, good traditional Italian food with a Mediterranean flair. Whether you decide to catch a matinee performance or an evening show you should stop in and enjoy a meal as part of your outing. If you are running short on time, another fun thing to do after the show is stop over to Cote’s Ice Cream located across the street from the theater. They make the best homemade ice cream in the area and offer so many flavors it is almost impossible to choose from! So when you are looking for something to do this summer, take some time to enjoy performances at the Maine State Music Theater, there is a reason they have been around for 50 years, come see why!
