Orono: Things To Do While Your In Town

Winter,Spring,Summer & Fall: Orono is home to the University of Maine’s largest college campus but, it also offers visitors a variety of things to do. Last fall, we took a trip to the Bog Boardwalk, which is a one mile loop trail that starts in the Bangor City Forest and loops around through the bogs behind the University. We enjoyed this peaceful hike observing the bog and its natural beauty and wild life. I was able to get some great pictures of the moss carpet that edges the bog. Another great thing to do in Orono is to visit the farmers market. This is one of the largest farmers markets that I have been to with over 25 participants and a variety of fresh produce, organic cheese and meets and very healthy plants and seedlings. Whenever I am up there I always make sure to stop in at The Store – Ampersand. This place has the best wine selection as well as great coffee and baked goods. The Bear Brew Pub is a fun place to hang out and grab a bite to eat. The downstairs is a restaurant with great pub food and the upstairs offers a bar and pool tables if you are looking for something to do. Another great stop is the University of Maine Museum of Art which has a growing collection of fine art which includes works from Andrew Wyeth and Winslow Homer. This museum is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon and admission is free which makes it even better. Orono definitely has a wide variety of things to do while your in town, so check them out.
