Acadian Village: History Of A Region

Winter, Spring,Summer & Fall: The St. John’s Valley region in northern Maine is home to one of the state’s largest historic sites, Acadian Village. Acadian Village is located just north of Van Buren and serves as a tribute to the Acadian heritage of the people of Maine. Tours of the museum are offered and visitors can tour a dozen of buildings such as the railroad station, chapel, school house and black smiths shop would have looked like back in the early 1800’s. Another place to see is located in the town of Lille. The name may not be one of Maine’s most recognized towns but, it is home to the Musee Culturel du Mont Carmel which is a restored Catholic church that now serves as a museum and cultural center. The building proudly displays two hand carved angels playing the trumpets on each of its turrets. These carvings were done by a renown sculptor from Quebec in 1908.

Presque Isle: Things To Do In The Heart Of Northern Maine

Winter,Spring,Summer & Fall: In the heart of Aroostook County you can find Presque Isle. With so many small towns in the northern region of Maine, Presque Isle is considered to be a big city boasting it’s own shopping mall and plenty of other things to do. If you are planning on a trip to see what the Northern part of the state is all about then the first thing you will encounter along the way on Route 1is the Maine Solar System Model. Passerby’s can view all of the planets on their drive from Houlton to Presque Isle. This is pretty neat to see this three dimensional solar system model which is well marked and visitors can pick up a brochure in Houlton to learn how it was created. Another fun thing to do is to check out the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival held in August each year. This hot air balloon festival is quite a treat and visitors can participate by taking a ride in one of the balloons. They always have the best chicken BBQ and a golf scramble that is open to the public which makes this a weekend event. Maybe a balloon ride is not fast paced enough for you then rev your engine and head over to the Spud Speedway in nearby Caribou. With stock car racing, street car racing and a whole bunch of activities it is a fun way to spend some time. The Nordic Heritage Center is a great place to spend some time in the “great outdoors” offering professionally designed trails for hiking and mountain biking in the warm months and Nordic cross country skiing in the winter months. The Center has a great lodge to grab some food in or just sit and enjoy the roaring fire. Another great place to hit the slopes is Big Rock Ski area which boast “big mountain skiing in a family atmosphere” the rates are very reasonable and the skiing is great. They also offer snow shoe trails as well as cross country trails. Presque Isle is a four season wonderland with plenty of things to do for all.

Bar Harbor Camping: Relax And Enjoy The View

Spring, Summer, Fall: Bar Harbor is an island off Maine’s coast and is an easy 50 miles from Bangor, Maine. The island is home to some of the best camping that can be had in Maine. Many of the sites feature on the water views and all offer easy access to the water. While camping in Bar Harbor, you will have many things that you can enjoy that are around you, such as beautiful villages and beautiful beaches to relax on that are easy to access from where you have decided to camp. Standing tall and beautiful, all of the lighthouses surround the island and each of them tells a story in history. If you go to see the lighthouses, you will also be able to see some of Acadia National Park’s most beautiful features, such as the amazing towering and intimidating rock walls and pebble beaches. Whether you take a charter to see the lighthouses and other surroundings, or just go explore alone, this will be an experience you will never forget.

Cadillac Mountain: Greet The Sun

Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall: Cadillac Mountain at 1582 feet tall is one of the first places to see the rays of the rising sun in the United States. The 360 degree views from the spruce and pine studded granite summit are beyond spectacular. The smoothly worn granite mountain top reveals evidence of the regions natural history and the glaciers that once covered this land. The summit can be reached for a fee by a National Park road from May through November, and can also be reached by hiking trails in the winter months. Viewers at the summit are rewarded with a glimpse of the small harbors and villages that dot the shoreline of the island as well as the open waters of the North Atlantic. You don’t want to miss Frenchman’s Bay and Thunder Hole. Be sure to check local conditions and park hours before setting out, and prepare to be held speechless.
