Spring, Summer, Fall: Crocket Cove Woods Preserve is located a few miles northwest of Stonington. Just past the village of Burnt Cove turn left onto Whitman Road and follow it until the black top ends where you will find a small parking lot with a registration box. This hundred acre parcel is very diverse. A fog forest is located here. A mature forest of pine, fir and spruce that thrive in the dank, mossy and foggy environment. A short self guided nature path welcomes any traveler who is fortunate enough to find this gem of a forest. The Crocket Cove Woods Preserve is open during daylight hours and is free of admission.

Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge: Easternmost National Refuge Center
Summer, Winter, Spring, Fall: Located just southwest of Calais you will find Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge encompasses 17,000 acres and visitors can find plenty to do while visiting this easternmost national wildlife refuge. The gates were first opened in 1937 to serve as a breeding ground for birds and other animals as well as a refuge. There are over 50 miles of roads and trails, fantastic camping spots, perfect fishing spots in one of the many ponds and lakes, bird watching, cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter there is something for everyone. While you are there take a trip over to Eastport, the most eastern part of the US and be the first one in US to greet the morning sun. It is a beautiful area of Maine that you don’t want to miss.
Bar Harbor: A Haven For The Whole Family
Summer,Fall: Bar Harbor is a haven for families and can be a great place to take kids. At low tide you can see how Bar Harbor got it’s name. Take the kids down to the beach with pails and shovels and explore what the ocean uncovers along the large sand bar that connects Bar Island to downtown Bar Harbor. You can also spend sometime at the Ocanarium and Lobster Hatchery. There is a great hands-on water cycel exibit and the seal education exihibit will keep all ages entertained. There are 50 miles plus of carriage roads that are always ready for exploration by foot or bike. Park Street Playground in Downtown Bar Harbor will keep the little ones entertained with a great swing set, sandbox, slide and tetter-totter. Whatever your family wants to do you can find it in Bar Harbor, it’s just a great family destination spot!
Mount Desert Island Garlic Festival: Garlic Lovers Paradise
Fall: The MDI Garlic Festival has been going strong for 10 years. The celebration of one of culinaries most loved seasonings, garlic takes place at Smugglers Den Campground on Mount Desert Island. The festival has grown into a gathering of numerous local restaurants, musicians, brewers and garlic growers. This festival draws more than 800 people to the event. Most importantly, the festival has raised thousands of dollars for local non-profit organizations. In addition to great food and entertainment there is also a wine tasting event and a dog biscuit challenge. This festival was a result of friends gathering together to celebrate the harvest of thier garlic crops and now that celebration has become a community wide event that has been growing since 1997.
