The Forks: Come To Maine’s Four Season Playground

Spring,Summer,Fall & Winter: The Forks area is known as Maine’s outdoor playground. There are year round activities that will keep outdoor enthusiast coming to this area of Maine year after year. In the winter months snowmobilers come from all around to travel the 100 miles of trails that are groomed to perfection. Spring brings the first day of fishing and Salmon, Bass and Brook Trout are all waiting in the lakes and rivers that run through this area. The melting snow brings spring run-off which contributes to excellent white water rafting conditions. The Kennebec River and Dead River meet in this part of the state and make for some of the best rafting on the east coast. With scheduled water releases from the dam rafters can experience a ride of a life time. I have been able to experience a 5000 cu ft release ride that was enough to take my breath away. The volume of water pushed our raft over the rapids at speeds that were exhilarating. In addition to white water rafting visitors can enjoy one of the many hiking spots this area has to offer. Hikers can meet up with the Appalachian Trail via Pleasant Pond Mountain or hike into Moxie Falls. Moxie Falls is a 90 foot waterfall that falls into a great pool. The whole area is very beautiful and is a wonderful place to explore. If you are thinking about where you want to stay when visiting, there are plenty of campsites to choose from that offer visitors a quiet nights rest in the wilderness. If you are looking for other alternative, there are many outdoor lodges that offer guest overnight accommodations along with adventure packages such as rafting trips, snowmobiling packages and hunting and fishing excursions.
