Summer: Salt water surf fishing off the beach is a great way to spend some time in search of the big catch. With no licensing required, it is also a free and easy way to catch your dinner. A great spot to fish and spend some time is Ferry Beach. Why not pack a picnic dinner, your poles and some towels and head out tonight. The longer days allow for time to dine al a fresco on Ferry Beach while enjoying the warm weather and sunset. The beach has miles of white sand and is the perfect spot to collect shells or just play in the water. So why not take the family cast your line, let the kids play and sit back and relax. The beach also has a trail system which loops around the beach area and brings you to the swamp where you will find the rare black gum tree. The trail system is a great place to walk your dog and after 5 pm dog owners are allowed to bring their dogs to run on the beach. This beach is the perfect spot to go any night of the week. After you are done at the beach be sure to stop in at Garside’s Ice Cream where the homemade ice cream has been churned out for over 50 years. I recommend either the black forest or the pistachio which by the way is made with real pistachios. So fish, picnic, swim, explore you can do it all on Ferry Beach!

Lyric Music Theater: South Portland’s Hometown Theater
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall: The Lyric Music Theater located in South Portland is a community theater at its finest. This community theater has been dedicated to producing quality musicals for the entertainment of audiences throughout Southern Maine. Founded in 1952, they have been producing four musicals each season, from September to May, in the Cedric Thomas Playhouse at 176 Sawyer Street. With productions like Phantom and Oklahoma, its like a little piece of Broadway right in our own backyard. From the sets, to the costumes to the actors and actress, everyone is involved in creating these productions for visitors to enjoy. Portland: Things To Do When There’s Nothing To Do
Winter,Summer,Spring & Fall: Portland is Maine’s largest city and with so many people comes so many things to do. From art to live music events this city if full of unique and interesting places to go. In the center of town, you will find the Portland Museum of Art which offers Sunday morning jazz breakfast events. Every week you can enjoy live music and breakfast along with the art of course. The State Theater in the heart of the Arts District offers visitors shows and concerts on a regular basis. If you have kids, the Children’s Museum is a great place to spend time. With interactive activities, kids can pretend to run a space shuttle, be a weatherperson, run a store or be a fireman. Looking for a hot spot for a night out on the town, then check out the Old Port. This restored historical district is has a great collection of pubs, fine dining and dance clubs. Not far from the downtown area is the one of the state’s largest malls with many specialty shops and restaurants surrounding it. If the Old Port area is not your scene and you are looking for place that all ages can co-mingle than CJ’s Place may be your spot. CJ’s has a relaxed, casual atmosphere with a real “local hangout” feel. The drinks are relatively cheap and the food is good. This is the place to head if hanging out with friends for a couple of drinks, listening to some music and dancing a little is on the agenda. If it’s happy hour after a long day in the office you’re in search of, than a new upscale place to check out is Empire. This posh new club is located in the Time and Temperature building in the heart of downtown. This is a great place to sit on the lounge chairs and sip martinis. The second floor of this trendy hangout is a full blown dance club with an amazing stage area and room to move. If you are in the mood to move to some of the best club music around than the Old Port Tavern or OPT as it is known, is the place to go. The crowd is young twenties, moving to the DJ’s rhythm jam that is being pumped on to the dance floor. It may not be New York but, the club scene in Portland is happening and there are plenty of places to choose from.
