Summer: So you are planning a camping trip in the southern Maine area and are having a hard time finding one that meets your needs. If you don’t need to be right on the ocean you may want to check out some of the York Beach campgrounds. They are close enough to the beach without having to deal with the sand in your tent and with so many places to camp, here are some great places to check out. Dixon Campgound is a great wooded campground with large wooded lots and fire pits. This is a great place to camp with kids. The best site is #59 because it is the most private and close to the pool area. Another great southern Maine campground to check out is directly across the road from Long Beach, Camp Eaton. This is a very nice campground with some great sites, they do not offer tent sites but, if you have an RV this is a great place to camp. The grounds of this 35 acre campground are neat and clean and offer grassy fields, woods a lily pond and views of Nubble Light. There is a store on-site and free hot showers to clean up in after a day on the beach. If you are looking for camping right on the ocean than Libby’s Oceanside Camping is the place for you. Libby’s offers both tent and RV sites and the beach is just steps away. This campsite fills up fast due to its beach front location so you will need to call in advance for reservations. Any of these campsites are a great place to stay and being in the York Beach area gives you options galore. York Harbor is a beautiful place to visit and Nubble Lighthouse is a great spot for some great photos of Maine.

Biddeford: Growing Arts Scene, Eclectic Shopping & Fun Dining Spots
Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring: Most people don’t think of Biddeford as a city with a growing arts movement. The images that come to mind often entail mills and empty, abandon buildings but, there is something going on in this neck of the woods and you just might be surprised. With the renovation of the City Theater, which is absolutely breathtaking both from an architectural stand point and a historic perspective there seems to be movement toward a new art scene. This opera house was designed by the famous John Calvin Stevens and is host to many highly acclaimed stage productions of music, theater and dance events. With this as the focal point there has been a fair share of galleries and shops that have popped up throughout town. There are plenty of scheduled events revolving around the arts. “Milling About” is a great event and a great way to sample a taste of what Biddeford has to offer for arts, food and music. These events are scheduled on a regular basis and are usually well attended. Biddeford also has its own Art Walk where all the galleries participating are open and people can come in and browse through each gallery. Along with having a thriving arts scene Biddeford also is making good use of its empty space by attracting unique shops and creative restaurants such as Bebe Burrito that you should check out while in town. State Parks: Find Camping, Hiking, Swimming & A Little History
Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring: Maine’s slogan is “the way life should be” for a reason, it’s a beautiful state and offers natives and visitors plenty of things to see and do. Maine also has some of the best state parks from places to hike, camp, enjoy the beach or a part of Maine history the state park system is extensive and well maintained. At Maine’s most southern tip stands Fort McClary State Park in Kittery and you thought Kittery only offered outlet shopping. This is clearly one of Maine’s most significant historic state parks with the original fort standing guard over 275 years ago. At the eastern most point of Maine located in Lubec is Quoddy Head State Park and it is beautiful! This part of Maine known as “downeast” is very unique and almost preserved to the way life was in Maine in days gone by. At the heart of Quoddy Head is the candy caned striped lighthouse known as the West Quoddy Head Light. The park offers some great hiking trails with high bluffs that over look the cold Atlantic and where at any given time visitors can spot whales in the distance. The northern tip of Maine boast several close by state parks with Aroostook State Park being the largest of them offering camping hiking, swimming and a gateway to the great north woods. All of Maine’s State Parks charge daily usage fees but, they are minimal and the parks are well maintained offering the basic needs for day and overnight visitors. Wells: Find The Beach, Go Search For Antiques, Do It All!
Summer: People go to Wells for many reasons but, the beach is probably the biggest. With miles of sandy beach and rentals all along the shore, Wells makes for the perfect summer vacation spot. Although the popularity of Wells Beach is far reaching there are some other great beaches in the area and one of those is Crescent Beach which is only a half mile from Wells Beach. Crescent Beach is much smaller and less crowded than it’s counterparts. In addition, there are some great tidal pools where crabs and starfish can be caught. It’s a great place for families with small children because of it’s gentler surf. The beach is not the only reason people flock to Wells. Wells also has it’s fair share of antique shops running up the route one corridor. You can find pretty much anything from antique furniture, linens, dishes, books and most of these dealers are willing to dicker on the price which makes the hunt for bargains that much more exciting. Wells obviously caters to tourist and has its fair share of seafood restaurants offering Maine’s specialty lobster. Be sure to swing into Mike’s Clam Shack, the food is fresh, simple and delicious! End your day with the best ice cream made fresh daily at Big Daddy’s, trust me they don’t call it that for nothing! Wells also has several highly rated golf course for residents and visitors to go out and hit the links. Wells is a great place to visit and stay for either the day or as an extended vacation, put it on your to do list this summer.
Kennebunkport: One Beautiful Beach Town
Summer:Summers in this town are buzzing. People come from all over to summer, vacation, or just visit this beautiful and oddly named beach town in Maine. Activities are endless and accommodations are wide ranging in this picture postcard town. Visitors young and old enjoy the vast shopping and dining amenities in Dock’s Square. You are guaranteed to be taken aback by the experience of a Whale Watch in the areas open sea. Most prefer lodging in the area’s wide variety of renowned hotels or inn resorts. Kennebunkport is also the location of many weddings due to its stunning scenery and seasons of coastal beauty. Just 1.5 hours from Boston, this is the perfect destination for a memorable vacation that is out of the ordinary, but not worlds away.
