Moosehead Lake Snowmobile Trail: A Loop Worth Traveling

Winter: Maine offers some of the scenic and best snowmobiling around. With the development of the ITS trail system people travel from all over just to come ride on the miles of groomed trails. If you are heading to the North Woods and looking for a great way to spend some time then you should check out the Moosehead Lake Snowmobile Trail. This trail loops around the scenic Moosehead Lake and you can access it in Greenville. The trail was designed so that riders can stop every twenty miles to gas up, eat, find cozy lodging or just enjoy the beautiful sites like Big Squaw Mountain. The trails are groomed to perfection and well marked and are in essence a “mini highway” in the middle of some of the remotest parts of our state. The trail links many of the small communities that makes up the Moosehead Lakes Region like Kokadjo, Northeast Carry, Seboomook, and Pittston Farm as well as Rockwood which means you are never too far from needed amenities. If you don’t have your own sled there are places in both Greenville and Rockwood to rent one as well as lodging that offers visitors overnight accommodations and “sled and bed” packages. The best part though is the ride and the unimaginable beauty of the entire area. It really is a special thing to do and worth the trip!
