Polar Express: From Portland Maine To The North Pole, Can You Hear The Bells

Winter: Attention Polar Express fans, you no longer have to travel out of state to enjoy this popular kid’s tale. This year, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad will celebrate the holiday season by offering the Polar Express train ride from November until mid-December. Bring your little ones dressed in their pajamas and hop aboard the train which will depart from the Ocean Gateway Terminal in Portland. Once aboard the train, riders will be served hot chocolate so rich it taste like it is made from melted chocolate bars by Santa’s elves dressed in full attire. As the train makes it way slowly along the edge of Portland’s East End, you will be entertained with a live reading of the Polar Express story. After spending some time on the train, you will be dropped off at the “North Pole” which is fully decorated for Christmas and there you will be greeted by Santa’s helpers and led to the “big man” himself where all little ones can spend some time reviewing their Christmas list with the jolly old fellow. Your children will squeal with delight in anticipation of receiving the first gift of the season. Who knows if you will hear those bells from Santa’s sleigh…it all depends on if you truly believe. After taking some time to enjoy the Polar Express, be sure to stop in at Monument Square and check out the city’s Christmas tree. The kids will be amazed at the huge tree and all of those glistening lights. All of this is sure to put you into the Christmas spirit and really remind you of what the magic of Christmas is all about!
