Aroostook State Park: Winter’s Playground

Winter: If you are in Northern Maine and are looking for some fun outdoor winter activities, then take it outdoors and head to Aroostook State Park. The park offers cross country skiers miles of prime groomed trails and snowshoe trails. Snowmobilers will find a great place to ride where ITS 83 crosses Aroostook State Park property and connects to the park’s trail system. This makes for a gorgeous ride through the woods and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a prime destination for backcountry snowmobile. The Allagash offers spectacular ice fishing, just bring your traps and kick back and watch the flags fly! You can hike, ski or snowshoe through the Holbrook Island Sanctuary in Brooksville however, you will need to forge your own paths and snowmobiles and ATVs must be left at home. If you have never camped in the winter, this may be the year to try it. You can pitch your tent in the shadow of Quaggy Jo Mountain in Aroostook State Park, it’s a beautiful spot and makes for some magical memories.
