Maine Things To Do Presque Isle: Things To Do In The Heart Of Northern Maine
Posted by mainetodo on Thursday, February 28 @ 17:33:47 PST

Winter,Spring,Summer & Fall: In the heart of Aroostook County you can find Presque Isle. With so many small towns in the northern region of Maine, Presque Isle is considered to be a big city boasting it’s own shopping mall and plenty of other things to do. If you are planning on a trip to see what the Northern part of the state is all about then the first thing you will encounter along the way on Route 1is the Maine Solar System Model. Passerby’s can view all of the planets on their drive from Houlton to Presque Isle. This is pretty neat to see this three dimensional solar system model which is well marked and visitors can pick up a brochure in Houlton to learn how it was created. Another fun thing to do is to check out the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival held in August each year. This hot air balloon festival is quite a treat and visitors can participate by taking a ride in one of the balloons. They always have the best chicken BBQ and a golf scramble that is open to the public which makes this

a weekend event. Maybe a balloon ride is not fast paced enough for you then rev your engine and head over to the Spud Speedway in nearby Caribou. With stock car racing, street car racing and a whole bunch of activities it is a fun way to spend some time. The Nordic Heritage Center is a great place to spend some time in the “great outdoors” offering professionally designed trails for hiking and mountain biking in the warm months and Nordic cross country skiing in the winter months. The Center has a great lodge to grab some food in or just sit and enjoy the roaring fire. Another great place to hit the slopes is Big Rock Ski area which boast “big mountain skiing in a family atmosphere” the rates are very reasonable and the skiing is great. They also offer snow shoe trails as well as cross country trails. Presque Isle is a four season wonderland with plenty of things to do for all.
