Winter: If you start to feel cooped up during Maine's long winter and you are looking for a cabin fever reliever then you may want to consider strapping on a pair of snow shoes and going for a walk. Maine offers the choice of lots of winter recreational sports but, if downhill skiing at breakneck speeds does not thrill you or strapping on a pair of boots with razor thin blades makes you nervous then snow shoeing may be your sport. It is safe, affordable and takes little to now skill with the exception of the ability to walk. Enjoy the benefits of this popular winter activity and the beauty of the winter landscape. It's not

necessary to invest in snowshoes to try it out. Snowshoe rentals are available at many of the places across the state where you also can find groomed snowshoe trails. If you do decide to buy your own, you can find a wide selection sold at specialty and sporting good stores around the state.. If you decided to go out and try it, remember to dress in layers so you can stay comfortable. Lots of accessories arent' necessary although some people like using ski poles, which help you maintain their balance and gaiters to keep the snow out of their pant legs. Snow shoeing is a great way to be in the woods during the winter months so why not try it out today!
