Winter: Maine is known as “the way life should be” and whether you’re a resident or a visitor, here is a list of five fun things to do during the winter months. 1.Gay Paris On A Saturday Afternoon – Take a stroll down Main Street in South Paris on a wintery afternoon and step into the warmth of The Rising Sun Bakery and Coffee Shop where you'll be greeted by all the locals enjoying the best chicken salad sandwich served on homemade bread and whoopie pies around! After you spend some time enjoying the food and company, head across the street where you can take a hike around the local park and work off your lunch. 2. The Genie Comes Alive In Bridgton – Go to a matinee at the classic Magic Lantern Theater in Bridgton. This theater has a great nostalgic feel and décor as it has been a part of Bridgton’s history since the late 20’s. After catching a flick, be sure to head over to the Chinese restaurant across the street - they have a great menu with fresh food with affordable prices. 3. Hit The Farm In Oxford – Wake up early and go to Carter’s Farm on Route 26 in Oxford. You can rent some skis and spend the morning navigating their miles of groomed trails either on snow shoe or cross country skis. After,

head over to the Smilin’ Moose Pub where you can choose from ten Maine micro brews and some great entertainment on Friday and Saturdays. 4. Discover Historic Belfast, Maine That Is – Go downtown and browse around this waterfront town’s unique shops, cozy coffee shops and interesting eateries. Be sure to stop in at Rollies Bar and Grill and have lunch. This place is a great local hangout that is definitely not fancy but, is a fun place to grab a bite to eat. After, walk down to the waterfront where you'll find the Belfast Moosehead Railroad walking trail which is a neat way to see the waterfront. If it is too cold outside, check out the library and enjoy the panoramic view from the top floor. 5. Portland To Peaks Island – Hop on the ferry and enjoy your 15 minute ferry ride to Casco Bay’s Peaks Island. Once you are on the island work your way up the hill and find your way to the Peaks Island Inn where you can enjoy a quiet Sunday morning brunch and the morning paper. After you finish, be sure to bundle up and take a walk on the four mile loop around the island. Hopefully you'll get an idea or two of creating your OWN things to do.
