Maine Things To Do Fall Getaway: Find The Best Fall Foliage Spots In Western Maine
Posted by mainetodo on Sunday, September 07 @ 17:40:23 PDT

Fall: Fall is such a special time of year here in Maine. The hustle and bustle of the summer crowds begin to dwindle making it the perfect time to step outside and enjoy the cooler weather and gorgeous colors of autumn. If you are considering something to do this fall, then you may want to take a drive toward the Western Maine region where the mountains meet the lakes. One of the towns to visit is Harrison, one of the smallest Western Maine towns that boast acres of Maine woods. The forest comes alive with color during the fall making for the perfect fall destination spot. Greenwood Manor Inn, in Harrison, is a great place to stay as it sits in the middle of over 100 acres of Maine forest. This Georgian style mansion was built in the early 1800’s and converted into a beautiful inn in the late 1980’s. Each of the seven guest rooms are furnished with period antiques and some even have cozy fireplaces and clawfoot tubs. A full country breakfast waits for guest each morning which is a good thing because you will need the energy in order to do all that there is in the area! The inn sits on the tip of Long Lake and with lake frontage guestsvcan take advantage of the water with canoes that are available for use. This is a perfect way to enjoy the fall foliage from a different vantage point, the water. There are also miles of hiking and biking trails that are on and around the property that offer sweeping vistas of the White Mountain region. Another thing to do if you are in the area during the last week of September is to go to the Fryeburg

Fair. Fryeburg is only a 30 minute ride from Harrison. This is one of Maine's largest and most popular fairs during the fall. Another great thing to do during your trip is to go pick fresh Maine apples at the Mt. Tirem Cider Mill. Or if you are looking for something to do in the evening hours, check out the Old Mill Tavern which is located on Main Street in Harrison. This place has a comfortable, casual atmosphere with live acoustic music on the weekends. There are also some great leather couches surrounding and a warm and cozy fireplace. This is a great place to enjoy a drink and warm up on a cool fall evening. It’s also a fun place to dance the night away. On Friday and Saturday nights after the restaurant closes, the staff actually perform live music and have become quite a local hit! If you are looking for a fun fall getaway with a variety of things to do in the heart of fall foliage country then, you should make your reservations today to visit Harrison.
