Summer: Eating lobster, enjoying the ocean and visiting all the sites in Maine are popular summer activities to do for visitors and residents alike. The mid-coast area offers plenty of places to see and plenty of things to do. While you're there, take a ride out to Brunswick to the end of Route 24 and you will find yourself in Bailey's Island. The island is connected to Orr’s Island by the famous Bailey's Island Bridge, a unique and one-of-a-kind granite cribstone bridge. Once you are on Bailey’s Island, the scene is pure Maine. Lobster boats piled high with traps and buoys floating in the harbor and cottage-style homes lining the shores of this small fishing community. great day trips to the surrounding islands. One of my favorite cruises is to Eagle Island where you can tour the summer home of Admiral Peary, explorer and professor at Bowdoin College. It’s also a great way to see the seals frolicking on the rocks just off shore and catch a 360 degree view of the famous bridge. If you feel like venturing off the island, head toward Bath, and check out the Maine Maritime Museum where you can learn all you ever wanted to know about the area’s maritime history. They have a great collection of photos and acres of galleries, original shipbuilding outbuilding along the banks of the Kennebec River. Take a ride to Kennebec Tavern and sit out of the deck overlooking the river and the boats. It’s a great place to enjoy a cold margarita and lunch on a warm summer afternoon!
